Our farms – Rooipad, Oranjedal, Alkara, Tierkop, Rooiduin, and Nuweland – each play a unique role in our story, with their own history, specialties, and packing facilities. Together, they represent our family’s commitment to premium table grape farming across generations.
Rooipad Farms is owned by Hannes and Izak Nel.
Our focus has always been on producing premium table grapes and sharing it with discerning clients worldwide.
Rooipad 1893
Rooipad – Where It All Began
Rooipad, just west of Augrabies, was the first farm acquired by the Nel family. For many years it focused on livestock and raisin production, until the arrival of electricity in 1979 transformed its future. With new irrigation and cooling facilities, Rooipad shifted into producing premium table grapes and organic raisins – marking the start of a new chapter for Nel Brothers.
Oranjedal 1997
Oranjedal – Borderland Advantage
Acquired in 1997, Oranjedal lies near the Namibian border at Onseepkans, about 120 km west of Rooipad. Its unique location allows harvests to begin around ten days earlier than our other farms, with the added benefit of far lower risk from rain, hail, and other harsh weather – making it an ideal region for producing consistent, high-quality grapes and raisins.
Alkara 2006
Alkara – Innovation in the Vines
Purchased in 2006, Alkara lies adjacent to Rooipad. Since joining the Nel Brothers family, much of the land has been replanted with exciting new varieties from the world’s leading breeding programs. Today, Alkara stands as a symbol of our commitment to innovation and keeping our vineyards at the forefront of global table grape trends.
Tierkop 2016
Tierkop – Embracing Organics
Tierkop was acquired in 2016 and is located north of Kakamas, on the Riemvasmaak road. In 2021, it became the home of our first certified organic unit, Rooipad Verpakking Twee. Here, alongside conventional vineyards, we proudly produce organic table grapes and raisins – a reflection of our dedication to both tradition and sustainable farming practices.

Rooiduin 2020
Rooiduin – Strengthening Our Roots
Acquired in 2020, Rooiduin is located between Kakamas and Augrabies, only 16 km from Rooipad. With its fertile soils and reliable conditions, Rooiduin focuses on conventional table grape and raisin production, adding strength and stability to our family’s growing footprint in the Northern Cape.
Nuweland 2024
Nuweland – The Next Chapter
The youngest member of the Nel Brothers family, Nuweland, was acquired in 2024. Just outside Augrabies and only 9 km from Rooipad, this farm represents our newest step forward – expanding our legacy while staying true to the values of quality, care, and family tradition that have guided us for four generations.
